Welcome to the launch of my yearly mystery shawl KAL; SiOG STRIPES! I love launching this before Christmas because it gives you something to look forward to after the holidays. I often find January anti-climatic, there’s so much build up to the holiday that it feels hard to get back into everyday life afterwards. This KAL allows you to forward plan a little bit of fun for yourself when all is quiet once more.
As this is a mystery I can’t give too much away before we start. You can probably guess by the name though that there will be some stripes involved. They’re definitely not your ordinary stripes though! The shawl is generously sized with a nice big wingspan that will sweep right over your shoulders.
Never taken part in a mystery knit-along?
Have you ever done a mystery KAL before? It’s a whole lot of fun! You pick the yarns you want to use (either a kit from me, yarn from your stash, or from a LYS) and jump in by introducing yourself to fellow knitters on the Ravelry board here.
When you get the presale KAL pattern you’ll get basic information and the dates that each section of the pattern comes out as a ‘clue’.
As with all my KALs I’ll have a full selection of video tutorials available to go along with the knit along. This will give you a few spoilers in relation to the finished pattern but if you want some help with the techniques along the way it’ll prove invaluable!

C1: Stolen Stitches ‘Nua’ (60% Merino, 20% Yak, 20% Linen; 153 yds / 140 m per 1.76 oz / 50 g); 3 skeins; Colour, August Storms (9809)
C2: Fyberspates ‘Faery Wings’ (69% Mulberry Silk, 23% Mohair, 9% Polyamide; 191 yds / 175 m per 1.76 oz / 50 g); 3 skeins; Colour, Magenta (09)
Approximate Yardage: C1: 407 yds / 373 m, C2: 475 yds / 435 m plus extra 25 yds / 21 m approx of C2 for tassels if desired
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US size 6 / 4 mm circular needles, 24″ / 60 cm long
Always use a needle size that gives you the gauge listed, as every knitter’s gauge is unique.
Tapestry needle, 2 safety pins, cable needle (cn), 6 stitch markers, blocking wires useful but not essential.
GAUGE
20 sts and 32 rows = 4″ / 10 cm in Double Garter Stitch blocked

Yarn Kits
Now in terms of yarn I’ll have some kits that will go live on my website at 8pm Irish time (2pm EST) on Wednesday the 6th. Initially there are a limited number of kits but I will be getting more stock in over the coming weeks so if they sell out quickly just request an email update (on the product page) to be told when they’re back in stock.
The yarn kits come with a project bag, 3 skeins of Nua Sportsweight and 3 skeins of Fyberspates Faery Wings. This yarn blends really nicely with Nua, it’s a mix of Silk, Mohair and polymide with a really interesting texture.
