Ribbon Tool Shawl

The latest Interweave Knits, Spring 2015 has just been released and I’ve got a shawl in it – Ribbon Tool Shawl.

Last spring when I was in Washington DC Dragonfly Fibers gave me a gift of some Pixie yarn. It was in the color, ‘Springtime in Washington’, a delicate pink with darker brown and black tones splashed through it. Pale pink is not a color I’m normally drawn to but there was something about the delicate color with those darker undertones that really appealed to me. When the call for designs for the spring Interweave came out this yarn looked like the perfect match.  This shawl was designed to make the most use of garter stitch using German Short Rows to gently slope the shawl. The shaping is created entirely with short rows and then the lace edge is knitted on sideways.

I’ve got a special treat for all of you –  Dragonfly Fibers have offered a yarn giveaway for my readers of their Pixie yarn that Ribbon Tool Shawl is made in.

What do you have to do?

To be entered in the draw, go to the website to pick the color of Pixie they would use to make the shawl. Then put your pick in the comments below. I will enter all comments into a raffle and the winner will be sent the yarn! Get your comment in before 10 in the morning (GMT) on Wednesday 4th of February. I’ll do a random drawing for the winner later that morning.

Best of luck!

  1. It’s hard to make a choice – the colours are all great, and would go well with the shawl.
    My choices:
For a bold statement – Raspberry
For my daughter – Cheshire Cat
For a classic look – Black Pearl

  2. They are all so gorgeous, it was so hard to pick but I think it will have to be Steel Magnolias.

  3. What a nice giveaway. The colors are beautiful. I think Kelpie would be one of my first choices.

  4. What a difficult choice!!.
I think I prefer Bad Moon Rising Pixie.
The pattern is wonderful, I adore it!

  5. Such a difficult decision but I’m especially drawn to Flannel Pajamas. Great pattern!

  6. So many beautiful colors. I would have to pick — Into the woods. Gorgeous deep green!

  7. Gorgeous shawl, and thank you for the giveaway! Mermaid Pixie calls to me — happy, peaceful memories of the water from a recent trip to French Polynesia.

  8. Orchid Thief Pixie (but Wine Country is so beautiful too–plus, the names for their yarns are always a fun surprise) Thanks for the offer! Beautiful shawl!

  9. So hard to just choose one! So many awesome colours! Save the Ta-Tas is my first choice, for my grandmother and mother-in-law who had breast cancer. Velvet Underground and Orchid Thief are great too.

  10. such a wont full range of colours, and I’m getting quite the giggle from the names! forget me knot blue is just wonderful!

  11. I would use steel magnolias. One of my favorite films and it is a beautiful green reminding me of the lushness of summer

  12. Starry Night Pixie would be my choice. Can’t wait until I get my issue and your pattern!

  13. So many lovely colors to choose from, but my first choice would be Into the Woods Pixie.

  14. Those are all such gorgeous (and creatively named) colors, but I’d have to say that Turning Leaves is my favorite. :)

  15. Cognac is my top pick, it is just a little lighter and brighter than my hair, LOL! Second choice and I may need to knit it twice is Steel Magnolia! Gorgeous!

  16. I think I would go with Winter Woods, because the edging reminds me of birch bark. A beautiful shawl, well-done.

  17. I’d have to go with Mermaid Pixie, to coincide with my daughter’s most favorite creatures :).

  18. Thank you to both you and Dragonfly Fibers for this give-away….very generous! All of the colors are beautiful, so it’s hard to choose only one, but I love the colorway “Bad Moon Rising.”

  19. OMG! What a wonderful surprise. Sweet pattern, lovely yarn, amazing color choices. Winter Woods is my pick.

  20. so many pretty colors, any of them would be lovely! I would pick Captain Nemo or Black Pearl.

  21. They’re all so lovely, but I think I’d love to try Watermelon Head – I’d love to see how those pinks and greens knit up together!

  22. Pretty shawl! :) And Dragonfly Fibers yarn is awesome.

My choice for this shawl would be Red Bud, as redbuds are my favorite springtime trees around here, even more so than the cherry trees that Dragonfly was going for with Springtime in Washington. (And besides, I’ve already made a different shawl with Rocky Top, which is my favorite of their colorways. :) )

  23. I think it would have to be “Cheshire Cat Pixie” or “Wine Country Pixie”. Both would make lovely shawls in the pattern.

  24. I would choose African Daisy. I have almost bought that colorway two different times! I am just going to have to break down and acquire some. The DF colors are marvelous.
