Zero to Knit

There’s a vast difference between knowing how to ‘knit’ and being able to do anything useful with it! If you don’t keep practising the details slip away very quickly.

Starter Series – Knowing how to knit.

Growing up in Ireland, I was introduced to knitting at a very young age.  As an adult, when I decided to revisit knitting, and I discovered that I did remember how to ‘knit’ but that was pretty much where it ended. I couldn’t put stitches on a needle (or take them off), I couldn’t read a pattern, and I definitely couldn’t add or remove stitches.

What I discovered is I learned best while ‘doing’.

I worked my way through different projects, looking up each technique as needed until I had a finished piece. Knitting is a hand’s on skill, and a large part of learning is developing new muscle memory. Being gentle on yourself and allowing yourself to make mistakes and start over again, make knitting a relaxing, fun experience. The aim of this new course (Zero to Knit) is to make that learning process much more seamless, with most of your questions answered before you even ask them!

Zero to Knit.

If you have always wanted to learn how to knit (or relearn), then this is the course for you!

In conjunction with seven yarn shops (iKnit7), we have put a comprehensive course together to get you from knitting newbie to knitting with purpose. We’ve put our heads together to figure out what would help you most as a new knitter so that you can avoid the common pitfalls; learn all about tools, yarn, and basic knitting terms before you ever need to pick up your needles.

Want to see what it’s all about?

Are you a try before you buy, type of person? So am I.

You can browse the class lesson list here, and at the bottom of the page, you can click through for our FREE preview lesson in Knit Basics so you can see what it’s all about.

Zero to Knit is a bundle of 2 classes; Knit Basics and Cardigan Ambition. As you can guess, it’s comprehensive, but we’ve focused on giving you the best foundations possible for your knitting adventures ahead. The courses are focused on providing you with the best knowledge available while keeping it in short, manageable videos that you can easily build on.

Not sure what to purchase when it comes to yarn and needles? That’s okay we’ve got you. We put together a Zero to Knit  Starter Pack just for you so that you can have confidence in the materials that you’re using.

Zero to Knit – It’s as easy as one, two, three!

Once you’ve learned about the basics and have your kit, it’s time to start putting your new skills to the test. We’ve got three projects for you so that you can practice gauge, tension and find your knitting mojo. It really is as easy as one, two, three!

Project 1 – A garter stitch pouch (or what I like to call a phone cosy). This teaches you the basic knit stitch and how to cast on and bind off.

Project 2 –  A hat. The definition of small and mighty. Hat’s build on several techniques making its project your mini-sized hero. By the time you finish your hat, you’ll have enough techniques to start knitting garments! (Yup, it’s a lot from a small project but we got you.)

Zero to Knit – Cardigan Ambition.

Now that you’ve conquered the basic class, it’s time to move on to the second part of the bundle; our Cardigan Ambition class.  Project 3 works on a mini (newborn size) cardigan and teaches you all the techniques you’ll need for a top-down cardigan.

Hate seaming? No problem!

I love this style of knitting as it’s easy to see your progress and when you’re done there’s no seaming you need to do. If you’re a more experienced knitter and have never worked a top-down cardigan, then this is the class for you. We’ve got all the techniques and skills you’ll need in one place so that you can make the most of your precious time in a relaxed and fun way.

Where can you get the classes?

You can find the full kit (everything you need) with a class download code here. (This would be fantastic as a gift if you have a friend who would like to get started knitting but doesn’t know where to start.)
