Do you have a technique that you shy away from?
I have been knitting for many, many years, yet there are techniques I have avoided. Ones I have skirted around and never managed to get back to. Intarsia is one of those techniques. It’s something I learned when I picked knitting up as an adult but haven’t returned to it since.
After a few discussions in the studio, intarsia started calling me again.
But, I wanted to really have fun with it.
To make it my own, and also give you the tools so you can too!
This means I’ve created a couple of patterns for our Winter Seasons Club that are just perfect for learning and playing with intarsia. They are all about experimenting with your colours and having fun. I’ve kept the intarsia shapes simple so you can really focus on the basics and perfect your skills.
In this season you will get 6 different colours in each club instalment. This will give you lots of opportunities to experiment with your colours. I’ll give you suggestions on colour picks for the patterns but I’ll also have a chart that you can colour in yourself to try out different colour options. I think you’ll quickly find that it can be a bit addictive, looking for the next perfect colour combo!
This season we’ll have two patterns, one is a small draw string bag and the second is a small shawlette (or scarf) designed to be tied around your neck. Each project will introduce a few other techniques, as well as intarsia. On the bag you will also learn how to join two flat pieces together using a sewn border to join them. For the shawlette we will introduce some German Short Rows to create a lovely curve to the edge. So as you can see both have a blending of techniques but they are overarchingly about colour with a capital C!

Seasons Club Winter 2024
This season is a place where intarsia meets short rows. A place for you to set your inner creative free as you design your own colour blocks and build on your skills from project one into project two. A place to explore colour and a place to share your work with others, to learn and connect. It’s a club to make your January a littler brighter.
How do we do that?
Well one of the ways is through this clubs yarn and you won’t be disappointing.
Winter Club Yarn
BC Garn ‘Semilla’ (100% Wool; 176 yds / 161 m per 1.76 oz / 50 g) is the star of this season’s club. This Argentinean sourced wool is dyed and spun in Italy to create a unique colour palette that’s rich and diverse. It’s the perfect choice to knit away those January blues.
The large range of colours available for this yarn has allowed us to have 6 colours for each club option. Just take a look at these:
