Do you like surprises?
How about yarny surprises?
If you have been a member of our Celtic Knits Club before, you will know that we like to include the unexpected so that our club is extra special every year. This year we have not one but two surprises for you!
If you follow us on social media, you might already have heard our secret:
The first surprise for our 2025 Club is our brand new yarn from Donegal Yarns, Solas. This is a slightly lighter-weight yarn with a touch of luxury. It is a blend of 93% Merino, 3.5% Cashmere and 3.5% Silk, all in a light and airy woollen spun yarn. The yardage is a delightful 222 m / 243 yards making it a lighter dk weight than our Blasta yarn. As this yarn is a little lighter we can experiment with some smaller cables.
But then we thought “What if we could include a bigger variety of cables in our club?”
Well, now it’s time for our second surprise:
It’s Not Just One Yarn.
Yes, we are shaking things up for our 2025 Celtic Knits Club!
How?
By having not just one yarn, or even two, but THREE different yarns! Each yarn will have brand new exclusive club colours, but that’s not all. We’ve worked with Donegal Mills to develop a new custom spun colour of Blasta called ‘Lough’.
As you can imagine having three different yarns, new colourways AND a newly spun Blasta colour is a treat. This will allow for a fantastic range of experiences with both knitting the yarns as well as the type of cable exploration we can enjoy with our 2025 club designs.
When you join the 2025 Celtic Knits Club, you will be able to pick a colour ‘option’. Each option will have a single colour from each of the club yarns.
Please note: we can’t mix and match between options, unfortunately, as we won’t be able to ensure we have sufficient yarn for orders!
If you’re wondering which yarns are coming in which club instalment, let’s take a look at the options below:
Instalment 1 | Solas
The very first club instalment will include our new yarn, Solas. Laura Perrem will design the patterns associated with this yarn and you will receive two accessory size patterns. She’s currently developing these but Laura has a love of small delicate cables so they are bound to feature in this first set of patterns.
Yarn Details:
93% Merino, 3.5% Cashmere and 3.5% Silk
222 m / 243 yards per 100g
Option 1 colour: Smoke
Option 2 colour: Blackberry
Instalment 2 | Deas
Our second instalment is in our beloved Deas yarn. This is our slightly heavier aran weight yarn that is also woollen spun. The heavier weight means that it works really well with bigger, more dramatic cables.
This instalment will be designed by me, Carol Feller. It will be a single, medium-size project and there may be some double sided cables—hint, hint!
Yarn Details:
86% Merino, 14% Mohair
185 m / 202 yards per 100g
Option 1 colour: Uisce
Option 2 colour: Gorse
Instalment 3 | Blasta
Our final pair of yarns will be with our gorgeous Blasta. This was the very first yarn developed for our Celtic Knits Club and it still a firm community favourite. This year we have two new colours, with one of them the custom spun colour mentioned above.
This yarn features a mix of Irish and New Zealand fleece in a heavy dk weight. The stitch definition from this yarn and weight make it fantastic to knit garments with. In this instalment I’ll design a cardigan and Eimear Earley will design a wrap.
Yarn Details:
60% Fine Irish Wool, 40% New Zealand Wool
212 m / 232 yards per 100g
Option 1 colour: Lough
Option 2 colour: Stone
Colour Inspiration
You might be wondering how our colour choices and designs are pulled together and that all comes from our inspiration for the club and this year that’s ancient Ireland and the stories lost in our landscape.
Stories steeped in myth and folklore.
Stories etched in stone.
We have such a diverse landscape here in Ireland that’s steeped in history and folklore. To allow our designers the freedom to explore this theme and to develop a yarn that our club members (that’s you!) would love, we decided we needed three different yarns which tell three distinct stories.
Through Solas, Deas, and Blasta, you’ll see the echoes of our landscape through their texture, flecks, and depth of colour. As we progress through the club, you’ll end up with accessories and garments that not only enhance your skill level but also embody the rich heritage and natural beauty of our surroundings.
We hope you’ll join us for the 2025 Celtic Knits Club and if you’d like to catch up on our previous post on the club with all it’s contents and delivery schedule, you can do that here.
Club will open at 8pm, Thursday 7th of November 2024 Irish time.
Note: Products will not be live before then.
Exciting news! CKC just gets better and better! Thanks to all of you ❤️❤️❤️
