Are you ready for a mystery knit-along?
One with a shawl pattern, delicious cables and not a fluffy yarn in sight?
Well, get comfortable as I’m about to take you on a journey for our 2025 mystery shawl knit-along or as we lovingly call it, MKAL.
But, incase this is your first MKAL, here’s some important information:
When we run a mystery knit-along, we want to give you enough details so you can feel confident and excited to join in. The final shawl pattern will be a mystery, but you’ll feel pretty good about what’s going to be released.
If you’re unsure, you can have a look back at our previous mystery shawls from 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019. And if you’re still wondering about joining a mystery knit-along, you can read my tips for joining an MKAL here.

The 2025 Mystery Knit-along Shawl
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I do very much love cables.
I love how they look on a finished knit and I really enjoy the process of knitting them. In fact I will often knit a lot more when there are cables in the fabric as I want to see what it looks like after the next cable cross!
Over the past few years, most of my cables have been in the Celtic Knits Club. In this club, the yarns are DK or aran weight which means that you have bigger, more substantial cables. When worked in this weight they have a deep, three-dimensional quality almost structural quality. However, this does mean that other types of cables don’t get much of a look-in when it comes to my design list.
This is where the Burren Shawl and our 2025 mystery knit-along comes in!
With this shawl, I’m using a fingering weight yarn, which creates an entirely different type of cable. With this weight yarn, the cables are smaller and more delicate, and you can fit a lot more into your work.
In terms of yarn, ideally, you should have a wool or wool blend yarn that will be able to hold a cable. I’ve used LITLG ‘Singles’ but Studio Donegal ‘Darnie’ or Manos del Uruguay ‘Fino’ would both make excellent options. If you have 660 yds / 604 m in a wool fingering weight yarn that has a little body it would make an excellent Burren shawl.
While this shawl will be a mystery, I will share a basic overview of the shape and construction.
The shawl will start at the very tip and grow upwards into a triangular shape from there. The cable grows organically from the bottom to the top. The shawl will finish with a small edging across the top and a larger, picked up border all around the edges.
I am in love with this shawl, but I may be biased. However, Eimear who is running the test knit did give a little gasp when she saw the first photos!

Hi Nadia,
Oops, am I signing up for the MKAL or newsletter. If newsletter, ignore because I’m already a subscriber.
I said I wasn’t going to buy yarn for this, but I spotted the color I want!
No problem Melvia! There are some very pretty colours :-)
I have never done a knit along but am going to dive in. It will be a challenge as I am in Portugal for March and April but will make it work. Sounds like fun. Enjoyed your video about MKAL this morning.
They are always a lot of fun!
I just bought the pattern and clicked the link to send the pattern to my Ravelry library but it didn’t work. Is there a trick? I was signed in to Ravelry at the time.
At least I did figure out how to get Burren into my Knit Companion!
Sometimes the connection with Ravelry lets us down! If you email us with your Ravelry name and your order number we’ll add it for you manually no problem.
I’m delighted to stumble upon your KAL. I was at The Burran February 2024. It was THE highlight of my trip! How could I not join?! ~Lori
Fantastic!
