I was a little intimidated by brioche before I tried it.
Did you feel the same when you look at those squishy, dense stitches?
However, the lure of brioche proved too strong, and the fantastic patterns you could create with it, well you know what happened next. I jumped right in! I started with single colour broiche, worked back and forth in rows. It wasn’t too scary, so I moved on to two colour brioche and brioche in the round.
This is where the fun really starts.
Very quickly I discovered that brioche was addictive and so much fun to knit. Plus, I discovered a secret of brioche. Small amounts of increases and decreases go a long way. The simplest of stitch patterns introduced into brioche has a big impact and when you introduce two colours it’s just breathtaking!

Seasons Club Spring 2025
For our spring Seasons Club, I want to introduce designer Bristol Ivy, who is a brioche expert. In fact, Bristol is who I turned to on Craftsy when I first began learning brioche. Her patterns have some amazing technique innovation and they are written in a clear and easy to follow way.
For the Spring 2025 Season, Bristol has designed a fingerless mitt and cowl set. Both use two colour brioche. The mitts are primarily worked in the round with a flat, attached upper cuff and the cowl is primarily worked flat with an end edging section worked in the round.
If you are new to brioche you will really enjoy the videos for this class, where I’ll go step-by-step through every stage of the pattern. I’ll also include an extra section on brioche basics and fixing brioche mistakes in your work.

“Both patterns are inspired by both technique and whimsy: how can I create a design that slowly introduces new concepts, but also feels fresh and new? The result came from one of my favorite answers: turn things on their side! Both the cowl and mitts feature a join-as-you-go construction, creating super wearable shapes that will keep you interested from cast on to bind off.”

Seasons Club Yarn
Our yarn for this club is a super soft hand dyed dk weight superwash merino. Cowgirl Blues ‘Merino DK’ has 186 yds / 170 m per 3.6 oz / 100 g. The club will have 2 skeins yarn, one in a semi-solid (main) colour and one in a variegated (contrast) colour. This combination works particularly well for two colour brioche, creating a beautiful harmony for the end design.
