Trio of Light Cardigan: A Fast, Fun Stash-Busting Knit in Deas Yarn

Imagine wrapping yourself in a cardigan that balances comfort and colourplay.

Something light, cheerful and endlessly wearable.

It’s the kind of knit that works just as well thrown over jeans for a walk as it does layered up on a cool evening.

Let me introduce you to my latest design the Trio of Light cardigan and it is definitly one to help knit down your stash:

Trio of Light Cardigan Overview

I’m a huge fan of striped cardigans.

They’re such a simple way of colour to your knitting and you can have so much fun with colour combinations. In my version of this cardigan I picked a couple of my favourite colours, the classic navy with a nice bright pop of lime for my stripes.

You may notice however that I didn’t go with a standard stripe.

I’ve added a little bit of variety, working the narrow lime stripes in bands of three with wider navy stripes between them. I really enjoy how this breaks up the stripe pattern and creates a pattern with the stripes.

It also allows for lots of colour play. Some of our testers have opted to work each of the three stripes in a different colour while Magali in the shop is going for a more traditional Breton stripe, with a cream background and a navy stripe.

Don’t you love a quick garment knit?

Well this cardigan was designed to be a very fast, fun knit. Allowing you to enjoy the knitting process but also finish a cardigan that you can wear as quickly as possible.

And if you’re wondering about the yarn, this is knit in our aran weight yarn, Deas, that is 86% merino and 14% mohair. This light, woollen spun yarn knits up very quickly, producing a warm but lightweight fabric. And blocking with this yarn is so much fun.

Trio of Light Construction

Trio of Light is knit from the top down, seamlessly using modified raglan shoulder shaping. You begin with increases along the raglan seams every right side row, with the raglan shaping being adjusted as you work down the yoke for different sizes. All stitch patterns for the yoke are given in a table format, allowing you to easily check your stitch count as you work.

The neck shaping for the cardigan has gentle increases worked to create a circular, neck shape. The body is continued from the top down with no shaping and a tidy, hip length finish. The sleeves have got enough positive ease at the top to allow this cardigan be worn as an outer layer and finish with snug ribbing at the cuff for a tidy fit.

So now all you need to decide is what size to knit and pick your colours!
