Last year I had a design, Sanremo, in ‘The Knitter’ issue 139. This design was almost a design puzzle for me! I wanted to create a triangle of stripes (similar in construction to a triangular shawl) and from there wanted the design to work up the body. Obviously if you just knit straight up you’d have a very asymmetrical design so I used short rows to add length to the other side. To add enough this was added in two sets of short rows.
Once the short rows were complete the rest of the body is just worked in the round up to the armholes. From here the front and back are worked separately and short rows are again used to shape the slope of the shoulder.
The final touches to the design are the small stripes cap sleeves. This is such a nice way to knit cap sleeves, you just pick up stitches all the way around and use short rows back and forth to create the sleeve cap. All the edges are then finished with the tidy I-cord Bind-Off. I used the contrast colour for the bind off by you could also use the main colour if you wanted a more subtle effect.
So if you want to knit your own version here are the yarn details and sizes:

Where to Buy
This pattern is now available on both Ravelry here and my website here.
You can get a yarn kit with several different colour options here.
If you use code SANREMO you can get a 10% discount on both the yarn kit and pattern until the end of May.
I’m hoping we have a nice warm summer now so I can wear this top!
How easy would it be to add length to the sleeves? My arms need more coverage :-)
Very easy, the caps are worked from the top down using short rows to work the sleeve cap. If you just keep working in the round you can extend to the length you want.
