It’s exciting and terrifying when it’s time to release the first patterns from a club! At the moment, packages are arriving all around the world, with lovely messages pouring in from members receiving them. But parcels are just the start of the fun – it’s time now to knit up that lovely yarn!
Yarn
Our Celtic Knits Club yarn is the yummy Blasta. This is a dk weight yarn that is custom spun for us in Donegal. It combines 60% Irish fleece with 40% New Zealand wool, and creates a light, bouncy, woollen spun yarn. The fleece used in the wool has been carefully graded so that only softer Irish yarn is used in the blend. It’s soft enough to wear after washing, but has enough grippiness to make working cables a joy.
Taffy Twist Hat
The first pattern in the Club this year is Carol’s Taffy Twist Hat. It’s shown here in the colour Spéir, in the smallest size. I just adore intertwining cables, having them twist back and forth like vines running around your head. When designing, having the ribbing run into the cables makes me very happy!

Bobbin Hat
The Bobbin hat is designed by Laura Perrem. The sample shown above is the medium size, in the skull style using our Farraige colour. This colour is brand new for this year’s club, so members are first to get their hands on it!
This hat comes two ways; skull style, as above, or with a folded brim. It uses a Chain Cable that takes a little while to learn but produces a really beautiful effect! The crown decreases seamlessly from the stitch pattern through to the top in a lovely, continuous flow.
