Meet Grianchloch – The Stolen Stitches Mystery Knit-along 2024.

Are you ready for our annual Mystery Knit-along?

This year we have multiple yarn options, a shawl shape that is one of my personal favourites, and, as always, free step-by-step pattern tutorials and clue prizes to keep you motivated to cross that finish line!

When we run a mystery knit-along, we want to give you enough details so you can feel confident and excited to join in. The final shawl pattern will be a mystery, but you’ll feel pretty good about what’s going to be released.

If you’re unsure, you can have a look back at our previous mystery shawls from 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019. And if you’re still wondering about joining a mystery knit-along, you can read my tips for joining an MKAL here.

We want you to enjoy your knitting time and have all the support you need to complete your shawl by the end of our MKAL.

THE 2024 MYSTERY KNIT-ALONG SHAWL

I love narrow shawls. I get the pleasure of beautiful stitch and colour combinations but end up with a very wearable knit. Do you like to wear shawls cinched up around your neck? I do I love wearing them as a luxury scarf. This means that narrow, lightweight and long work really well for me.

I’ve got a feeling I’m not alone.

One of the most common questions I get is how to wear shawls. If they’re big, they’re more like a mini-blanket and are very warm but bulky. However, long and skinny shawls hit the sweet spot. Fun knitting and easy wearing.

What’s not to love?

I don’t want to give too much away for the 2024 Mystery Shawl Knit-along, but I will talk about the shape and colour combinations. The primary base for this shawl is a 4-ply yarn. This forms the backbone and then the laceweight yarn (fluffy or not) will create the accents. This shawl will work for a vast variety of yarn combinations. You can go with a subtle, soft contrast that relies on the yarn variations to show the stitch pattern or have a bold, bright contrast option that will really make the design pop.

These tutorials work as a companion to the shawl, so if you need some extra help they will be ready waiting for you. Be warned that it will spoil the mystery, though!

MKAL 2024 KNITHUB COMMUNITY

The best part about a knit-along is always the chat that buzzes around our community. If you’d like to join us, we have a section dedicated to our MKAL and you’ll have a link in your purchase email. If you’d like to share on social media, you can use the hashtag #stolenstitchesMKAL24.

This way, I can always find you and share your progress.

Don’t give away too many spoilers, though, until the clue is finished. We would like to keep the surprise for people for as many people as possible as we all knit at a different pace!

GRIANCHLOCH YARN DETAILS

For my first sample, I used 1 skein of Vivacious 4ply and 1 each of two Cabrito yarns for the contrast colours. Each of those skeins are 25g so that gave me the option of using 2 contrast colours. Some of our yarn kits have a single contrast colour, this is because they come in 50g skeins. Fortunately, the shawl works well with either one or two contrast colours!

Manos Del Uruguay ‘Cabrito’ (80% Kid Mohair, 20% Polyamide; 230 yds / 210 m per 0.88 oz / 25 g); colours: CC1: 1 skein, CC2: 1 skein
