Welcome to Guggen

How are you all doing out there? I’ve been feeling the need to check in regularly with people these days. Everyone is on an anxiety roller coaster at the moment and there is no normal. I hope you’ve been able to find some comfort and peace in your knitting, it’s so good to keep our hands busy!

Next week I’m going to putting my newest summer KAL cardigan, Guggen, on pre-sale. It’s currently being edited so I can’t put up the KAL information pdf out but I wanted to give you all a chance to preorder the yarn for the KAL as soon as possible. The current situation in relation to the postal system is changing rapidly so it’s difficult to know how long some countries are going to continue accepting international post. Currently I can’t ship to Australia or New Zealand as both have suspended international post. I can still send packages (under 2kg as all the kits are) to the US and I’m hoping that will remain open for a little longer?

So all of that is a long winded way of me saying – if you want to order the yarn then I’d suggest ordering sooner rather than later! If you want to see if Nua Sport is available local to you then you can also check out our list of stockists here.

Introducing Guggen

The inspiration for this pattern came from my trip to the Guggenheim museum in New York this January. I was having a designer’s block and kept starting and stopping with different design ideas. The dramatic, sweeping horizontal lines of the museum really got my creative juices flowing and the Guggen cardigan is the end result!

This cardigan is knit from side-to-side with absolutely no increases or decreases. You began at the front edge, working your way around and using short row to shape the neckline. Short rows are also used to shape the sleeve and hips creating subtle, low-key shaping for a very comfortable cardigan. The horizontal lines are all done using slipped stitches so it’s an easy pattern to relax with once you’ve done the first repeat.

  1. Beautiful sweater! Can you tell me about the ease (negative ease?) So I can judge my size, please?
    Thanks you!

  2. I’m in, Carol. I love the shoulder and yoke shaping. I’ll be using Nua stash in Frog on the Wall. I have 11 skeins.

  3. I bought my skeins this morning but understand the wait for my Nua to be shipped to Canada!! Love Nua and this sweater is gorgeous!

  4. Hello, Carol, Guggen is beautiful and I’d like to take part in this. I’d require a size a little larger than 42″ and smaller than 51″. Are there sizes in between?

  5. Well I took a little break from the news last night and was catching up on my preferred reading and viewing. What a beautiful pattern and I just had to order the yarn immediately. I knit the Spraoi last year after meeting you at Woollin and I love it and the sport weight Nua.
However, please do not worry about sending this order, I caught up with the actual news this morning, I’ll join in whenever it is safe to do so ! ! ! ! ! !

    Stay safe

  6. Hi Carol,
I just tried unsuccessfully to order the yarn for this KAL and learned that shipping is not available to USA. Thought I’de check with you to see if this is accurate or if I need to do something different .
Hope all is well with you and your family,
    Joan

  7. Hi Joan,
On Friday Ireland entered into a fairly extensive lockdown with all non-essential businesses closed so all shipping has been paused temporarily. I’ve reordered this yarn to be delivered to my home studio so I hope to have shipping resumed for the KAL kits by the end of this week. If you are on my newsletter I’ll send an update when I’ve got plans in place. Sorry about that!
